The Big Idea

Some folks want to know more about what I do when I’m not trading. I collect hobbies as a hobby, as “the Boss” (my wife) says. Today, I’ll share another one of my favorite side projects!

Let’s Get To It

One of my favorite pastimes and ways to get creative is “woodturning.”

It’s a kind of woodworking you’ve probably seen on TV, sort of like making pottery, where as the wood spins on the lathe, you shape it into whatever you want it to be.

It’s almost like 3D Printing… just with a lot more manual labor!

One thing I’ve made using this method is yarn bowls.

You can put a ball of yarn in the bowl, feed it through the spiral cut, and then the cats don’t take the yarn ball across the house while you are knitting or crocheting.

The craft ladies in my family love them!

But I’ve got something for the fellas, too: a red oak beer pint.

Not that ladies don’t like beer, too, of course.

You can actually see one of my two lathes (the Laguna) in the top picture below!

This lathe is my “affordable” one that I got at a local auction to get started with, a delta brand.

Recently, I upgraded to a much “nicer” Laguna brand one:

It’s all a lot of fun and a lot of sawdust!

There’s the basics of one of my favorite hobbies. Maybe in a few days, I’ll share more about how I actually do them, if you’re interested!

Hope you have a great Sunday,
